Brooklyn College Alums Run For City Council

During last week’s primary elections, several Brooklyn College Alumni ran for district council.

Incumbent Jumaane Williams, a Brooklyn College alumnus of ‘01, was reelected Council Member of District 45, covering parts of Canarsie, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Flatlands, Marine Park and Midwood in Brooklyn. He defeated challenger Lou Cespedes in a landslide victory. Williams has represented District 45 since 2009.

Marat Filler, another Brooklyn College alum, was not so fortunate. Filler, an entrepreneur who received his BA from Brooklyn College, attempted to unseated incumbent Council Member Chaim Deutsch in District 48, representing Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach, Sheepshead Bay, Homecrest, Trump Vil- lage, Luna Park, Brightwater Towers and Midwood. Filler lost his election, receiving only 18 percent of the vote.
