Kicking off Brooklyn College homecoming weekend, the women’s soccer team played against the visiting City College. The struggles continued for Head Coach Patrick Horne and the women’s soccer club as they fell to the Beavers 4-2. For Brooklyn, it resulted in their fourth straight loss and their second against a conference opponent.
The Beavers wasted no time at the start of the game, a breakaway by City College’s Daniela Grisales-Agudelo resulted in the first goal of the game in the first minute of the half. It wouldn’t take long for the visiting team to connect on their second goal: an assist by Melany Caceres from left to center field to Amy Gomez resulted in the Beavers’ second goal in the 14th minute. Already down 2-0 in the first minutes of the game, Brooklyn desperately tried to come back, but the Beavers’ offense was on full display, and a minute later, Melany Caceres netted in City College’s third goal in the 15th minute. Although seconds later Bulldog Cansu Usta (#13), answered back by scoring Brooklyn’s first goal.
Three minutes before the first half was set to end, the Beavers connected on their fourth goal, courtesy of Amy Gomez. As the half-time whistle blew, Brooklyn found themselves in a major hole, down 4-1.
Throughout most of the second half Brooklyn could not get their offense running. They struggled to get any decent on-target shots out and went scoreless through the first 20 minutes of the second half. In the 78th minute, Brooklyn’s Usta would once again put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard, but the game was already decided with two minutes remaining in the contest.
Head Coach Horne spoke after the game. “Our seniors played hard and tried to carry us today, but unfortunately we dug ourselves an early hole that we could not climb out of,” Horne said.
